Interactive Digital Art (Rotary Tumble)

created by:
Muharrem Yildrim & David Tinapple,2012
ASU school of Art, Media & Engineering

This interactive art piece involves video projected onto a freely spinning wheel which the users can touch and rotate by hand. The creators wanted to create a physically tangible, interactive and digital object. They focused their attention on the physical act of spinning or tumbling an object. If the computer is aware of the position and motion of its projection screen/object in real time, then the object can be accurately projection-mapped as it spins. The piece tends to attract people to it and can become hypnotic.
